What to get right
- Ask before you answer. “Too expensive compared to what?” tells you whether it’s budget, a cheaper quote or doubt about the need.
- Compare scope, not just price. If they have another quote, offer to go through it line by line: equipment, labor warranty, permit, removal, duct or electrical work.
- Make “think about it” specific. Ask what they still need to decide, and who else is deciding. Then agree on when you’ll follow up.
- Respect “just fix it”. If the repair is reasonable, do it and write down what you saw. A pushed replacement turns into a bad review.
The prompt
This is the Handle 'it's too expensive' and 'we'll think about it' workflow, word for word. Copy it, fill in the [brackets], and paste it into the AI tool your company uses.
Help me prepare honest answers to common objections.
Objections: [price is too high / want to think about it / getting other quotes / just want the repair]
Our facts: [warranty, licensing, reviews, financing, install crew in-house]
For each: what the homeowner might really mean, a question to ask, and a respectful answer. No pressure tactics. Fill it in with the prompt builder → Open the full workflow
How to use it
- List the objections you hear most and the facts you can back up: warranty, licensing, reviews, financing.
- Run the prompt and practice the questions out loud, not just the answers.
- Role-play with another advisor or the owner before your next visit.
- After each visit, note which objection came up and what worked.
- If they didn’t decide, use the follow-up prompt two to five days later.

Questions shops ask
How do you handle “your price is too high” in HVAC sales?
Ask what they’re comparing it to. If it’s the payment, show financing. If it’s another quote, compare scope line by line. If it’s doubt about the need, go back to what you found. Don’t drop the price just to close.
What do you say when a homeowner wants to think about it?
Agree that it’s a big decision, ask what they still need to know, and set a specific follow-up day. Then follow up when you said you would.
Is it OK to discount to close a replacement?
Only if the price still hits your margin and you’d give the same deal to the next customer. The flat-rate price builder shows what a discount does to your margin.
